At Murdoch Allan we employ highly skilled bakers to bake the finest products available for our customers. We have a small dedicated management team to help look after our top quality products.

I served my time at Simmers in Hatton when I was a lad of 15. It was a very proud moment for me and my family when I returned to buy the bakery where I served my apprenticeship, and my father worked as flour confectionery foreman for 48 years! I have worked in bakeries throughout the North East of Scotland for 40 years including a spell in the North Sea oil rigs as a night baker. I have taken all this experience, skills and knowledge to the business and still enjoy a full time hand on approach as well as training new recruits.

Caroline Allan
Director / Company secretary

I have enjoyed a varied career initially working in the Rowett Research Institute in Aberdeen from which I left to bring up my sons Paul and Neil. I then worked in the retail industry until we bought our first shop in 1991 where I looked after the shop as well as the finance and administration. I now look after the retail arm of the business which I find very rewarding.

Paul Allan
Managing Director

I am a third generation baker who started my baking career at 10 years old cleaning up after the bakers after school in the local village bakery where my father worked. All for 70p per hour! I was then promoted to baking on Friday nights learning a lot of the skills required to produce the perfect buttery! I have always enjoyed baking but don’t get much opportunity for hands on any more. As the business has grown I have had to dedicate more time to managing my team, speaking with customers as well as keeping a close eye on the purse strings of the business.

Katrina McIntosh
Production manager

Thirteen years ago I took a temporary position at Hatton to help fulfil a Marks and Spencers order and I am still here and have worked my way through the roles to achieve training and experience. Some of my key roles are ensuring that product is made safely and to specification, drawing up production plans, NPD and support and motivation of staff. How the clock has changed, I am doing a job which I enjoy immensely and vow never to leave.

Marlene Milne
Office Manager

I joined the Company in Hatton at the outset having previously worked for 23 years with McVities at the same Site. I oversee the office function primarily compiling financial data for the Directors. I enjoy the challenges each day brings particularly as having the Directors on Site speeds up the decision making process.

Iain McGill
Bakery production manager

With nearly 20 years bakery experience, serving my time and working my way up through the ranks to bakery manager, I made the move North to Peterhead join a ‘fairly young’ and enthusiastic team. Having worked in both wholesale and retail supply environments I hope that my experiences through the years are an asset to the company. My role includes day to day running of the bakery side of the business, NPD, supporting and motivating staff and the ensuring there is an endless supply of quality products for our customers, from a safe environment. Here’s to the perfect buttery!!!

Packaging and supplies manager

I started working for Murdoch Allan in 1995 as a night shift despatch worker later becoming dayshift supervisor. When the business moved premises I worked in telesales before going back to the factory floor where I was assistant to the production manager leading to my present position within the business.
